Preparation Groups

The preparation groups are designed to help applicants understand the nature of adoption, by exploring all the aspects involved in adoption. The preparation groups cover a wide range of adoption-related issues such as child development, attachment, separation and loss, identity, resilience and the effect of maltreatment and neglect.

The training will also focus on the three sides to the adoption triangle;

  • The Child
  • The Adoptive Parents
  • The Birth Parents

Adoption Matters Northwest social workers facilitate the group, with the aim to help you make an informed decision about whether adoption is right for you. The programme is also a good opportunity to meet other adopters and to hear about their experiences.

We do not ask you to make a commitment to the adoption assessment until you have completed the groups. You can download our Preparation Group programme schedule from the link below.
