Adoption UK is a national self-help group run by, and for, adoptive parents, offering support before, during and after adoption. Adoption UK publishes Adoption Today, a magazine for those interested in adoption. Children Who Wait, which is part two of the magazine, features children for whom new families are being sought.

The Adoption Register is a database which holds information about children awaiting adoption and adopters wishing to adopt. Approved local authority adoption agencies and voluntary agencies send in data to the Register about adopters after they are approved to adopt and about children for whom adoption is the plan.

The Register then suggests links between the children and prospective adopters.

Adoption Matters refers all prospective adopters to the Register as soon as they are approved, so maximising the possibility of a link. Consent is always obtained before a referral is made.
